While in LA, we hosted an event at City Hall in collaboration with the city’s Commission on the Status of Women. The keynote speaker was Ana Guerrero, Chief of Staff to LA’s Mayor Eric Garcetti. As the first Latina to hold such a position in any major US city, she shared how the mayor’s administration achieved gender parity in the city’s appointed positions. Fifty-four percent of LA’s commission posts are held by women—a model for the rest of the country. Before the event, we took a few minutes to sit down with Ana and capture her invaluable insights.
Ana Guerrero spoke about the importance of a comprehensive gender study as the first step to achieving parity.
